Join Us at the 2026 Cornbread Festival

There are some traditions that just feel like home, and the Cornbread Festival at historic Mill Springs Mill is one of them.

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, visitors are invited to make their way to Mill Springs Mill in Monticello, Kentucky, for a day celebrating the food, history and traditions that have been part of life in this corner of Kentucky for generations.

Hosted at Mill Springs Mill by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Cornbread Festival brings visitors to one of Wayne County's most treasured historic sites on the banks of Lake Cumberland.

A Festival in a One-of-a-Kind Setting

The setting alone is worth the trip.

Mill Springs Mill, situated along the shoreline of Lake Cumberland, is surrounded by springs, trees and the natural beauty of southern Kentucky. The historic mill dates to the 1800s and remains a remarkable piece of Kentucky history.

Its enormous overshot waterwheel is one of the site's most recognizable features, and the mill's historic grinding equipment is still capable of turning corn into cornmeal. For generations, the mill was an important part of the surrounding agricultural community, and today it gives visitors a chance to see and experience a piece of that history firsthand.

The Cornbread Festival is a celebration of those traditions and brings people together at the mill for a day that connects local food, history and community.

Cornbread, Kentucky History and a Day at the Mill

Cornbread and cornmeal have deep roots in Appalachian and Kentucky food traditions, making Mill Springs Mill a particularly fitting place for a festival centered around one of the region's most familiar foods.

Past Cornbread Festivals at Mill Springs have included homemade food, local vendors, tours and demonstrations at the historic mill, along with plenty of opportunities to simply explore the grounds and enjoy the setting. It is the kind of event that works just as well for someone who grew up eating soup beans and cornbread as it does for a visitor experiencing this part of Kentucky for the first time.

And while you're there, take some time to explore. Walk down to the mill. Watch the water flowing from the springs. Take in the view along Lake Cumberland. Bring your camera. Slow down for a while.

Mill Springs is one of those places where the history and landscape are intertwined, and festival day is a great excuse to experience both.
